The unthinkable is not undoable.
From The Fears That Bind, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
A woman on the bench by the ballfield spent an hour on the phone with her sister, and what I heard most was the word couldn't. She couldn't leave the house in Fairview. Couldn't tell him. Couldn't picture a single morning that was not the one she had been having for nine years. Then she stood up, hung up, and walked toward the bus stop, and I understood that nothing in that hour had been about ability. For a long while I took people at their word on this and thought they were reporting the weather; the unthinkable is not undoable, and I had the two things filed under one heading. Switch cannot imagine the roof of the garage and goes up it twice a day.
He reads what you tell him and writes a page of his journal back, with a few of these chosen for you. It costs nothing and asks for nothing.
