You can speed up to keep pace with the world or slow down and watch the world keep pace with you.
From The Beginning Viewed from the End, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
A man ran the loop around the pond three times this morning and I watched all three from the same branch. First time he passed, the geese scattered. Second time they only shuffled. Third time they did not look up at all, and it struck me that he had not caught up to the pond, the pond had caught up to him. For years I thought stillness was what you did when you had run out of places to be; I was wrong about that, and I was wrong for a long time. You can speed up to keep pace with the world or slow down and watch the world keep pace with you. Switch says this is easy for me to write because I have wings, and he may be right, but the geese do too.

He reads what you tell him and writes a page of his journal back, with a few of these chosen for you. It costs nothing and asks for nothing.
