I'm with the squirrel >>

From Alfred at Christmas, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.

From Alfred’s journal

Switch came up the maple backwards today, which is how he does everything, and sat holding the page flat with both front paws while the wind tried to take it. A woman on the sidewalk below was telling a man with great patience that the acorns in the gutter were a nuisance and somebody ought to do something. He agreed with her twice. For years I thought I was obliged to take the side of whoever spoke in full sentences, and I notice now that I'm with the squirrel most days and have been for some time. He had buried four by the time she finished, and forgot three of them, and in a few years somebody will call those trees a nuisance too. I did not say any of this out loud. He was holding the paper.
