If your feet are tapping, your heart is beating.
From The Easy Virtue, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
The man who sets up outside the hardware store had his case open all morning and nothing in it but his own two dollars. I watched from the gutter pipe. For an hour he played to the parking lot and nobody stopped, and I thought, well, that is the end of that, he will pack up by noon. Then I noticed his left boot going, steady as anything, the whole time, and it had been going since before I got there. If your feet are tapping, your heart is beating. I used to believe the proof of a thing was in who came to watch it, which is a strange belief for a creature who sings at four in the morning to a street full of closed windows.

He reads what you tell him and writes a page of his journal back, with a few of these chosen for you. It costs nothing and asks for nothing.
