It doesn’t all fit because it’s not all needed.
From A Pocket Guide to Being Human, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
Switch spent the better part of the morning trying to get four walnuts into a hole that holds three. He took one out, put another in, sat back, tried a different order, as though arithmetic might soften if approached from the side. I used to think the trick was a bigger hole; for years I built wider and wider nests and lost eggs out the sides of them. It doesn't all fit because it's not all needed. The fourth walnut is still on the fence post where he left it, and he has not once looked back at it, and I cannot tell whether that is wisdom or just a short memory. The hole is full and he is asleep on top of it.

He reads what you tell him and writes a page of his journal back, with a few of these chosen for you. It costs nothing and asks for nothing.
