The light from every star shines on every path.
From What Consciousness Wants, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
Clear night, cold, and the man in the blue house left his porch light off for once, so I could see the whole sky from the gutter. For years I thought of stars the way I thought of streetlamps, each one standing over its own stretch of ground, doing its own small job. That is not how it works. The light from every star shines on every path, the one I took and the one I did not, the field behind the school and the alley where the dog is. Switch came out halfway through and asked what I was looking at and I said all of it, which he took for a joke and I did not correct him. I am still not sure whether that makes a choice lighter or heavier.

He reads what you tell him and writes a page of his journal back, with a few of these chosen for you. It costs nothing and asks for nothing.
