We would all have more peace if we would all be more quiet.
From What Consciousness Wants, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
The leaf blowers started on Hickory at eight and did not stop until noon, and by then two neighbors were out on the sidewalk shouting over the noise about whose maple had dropped what. I sat it out on the gutter and watched the pile they had made travel back across the yard on the wind. For years I thought the trouble with a loud street was only that you could not hear anything in it; today it looked more like the noise was the argument, and the maple was an excuse that came later. We would all have more peace if we would all be more quiet. Then around four the machines went off and nobody said anything for a while, and a jay I have never liked sat three feet from me on the fence and we both just looked at the yard. I do not know whether he was being peaceable or whether he had simply run out of things to object to.
