We expect life to treat us all the same though we each ask for something different.
From Leaving No Stone Unthrown, one of 296 sayings written by John Sarris over thirty years.
From Alfred’s journal
Two men shared the bench by the ballfield this afternoon and neither of them moved for an hour. The one on the left wanted the weather to break; he kept checking the sky and sighing at it. The one on the right had his face turned up to the sun like a dish, perfectly content, and the same sky gave him everything he came for. For years I thought fairness meant the sun falling evenly, which it did, exactly, on both of them. We expect life to treat us all the same though we each ask for something different, and I sat on the fence post watching two men get identical weather and call it two different days. Switch came by around four and wanted to know which one was right.
